A manifesto is a written declaration in which a person, group, or organization conveys their intentions, motivations, and/or opinions. It aims to answer the question: what are my/our beliefs? For this assignment, your task is to write a 600-700 word manifesto of your own that articulates (some of) your feelings about film.The word manifesto comes from the Italian word manifesto, itself derived from the Latin manifestum, meaning clear or conspicuous. While the parameters for this assignment are intentionally broad, a well-written manifesto will present a clear group of ideas that speak to your unique understanding of and vision for cinema.Several manifestos have been put up on ilearn for your perusal. In addition to the examples we discuss today in class, we will review more sample manifestos next week.Some possible questions to consider:What do you think film should do? How should it engage with its audience (e.g., should it alienate or unite; comfort or challenge; reflect the personal or the universal, and/or a combination of any of the above? How do your favorite films/filmmakers approach the medium? What are the emotional, intellectual, or other ramifications of film as a medium?
